The High Cost of Shipping in Canada: Challenges and Solutions

Are you familiar with the old proverb, “Necessity is the mother of invention”?
As a mother of two boys and the owner of a photography studio, I wear many hats every day. I’m sure a lot of you can relate! Between managing the boys’ activities and running a business, life is a constant juggling act. You have to be incredibly organized, with a detailed plan to avoid feeling like the White Rabbit from Alice in Wonderland, constantly rushing around saying, “We’re late, we’re late!”
I’ve always prided myself on my ability to multitask, juggle tight schedules, and thrive under pressure. But what really started to frustrate me—and likely most other “sports parents” out there—were those frantic, last-minute cries of, “Mama, I can’t find my mouthguard!” or “Where’s my neck protector?”
As I saw it, I had three options:
- Find a solution.
- Teach my boys to be more organized (good luck with that!).
- Do it for them (no, thank you).
That left me with Option 1: I had a necessity, and I needed to find a solution. I envisioned a space inside their huge duffel bags specifically designed for the small items that always seem to get lost. Something that would make everything visible and easily accessible as soon as they opened their hockey bags—lightweight, but practical.
That’s when I designed the “insert,” an organizer for sports bags, particularly focused on hockey bags. I ordered a prototype to test it out, and it didn’t take long to realize I was onto something. The look of excitement on other hockey moms’ faces when I showed them the sample was all the confirmation I needed. That’s how the idea for Gardy Athletics was born, and this amazing journey began.
Now, our U-9 team is actually having fun keeping their hockey bags organized, and parents are relieved from the last-minute panic. September marks Gardy Athletics’ one-month anniversary, and we’re thrilled with the positive feedback. The Gardy Athletics Insert is truly making a difference.
